A Dubuque-based lumber company soon will acquire another materials supplier.
Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. recently announced it will purchase City Lumber Co., a lumber and materials supplier and hardware store in Huntsville, Ala.
The acquisition is meant to bolster Spahn & Rose’s presence in the Southeast, according to a press release announcing the acquisition. The name of the Alabama location will remain City Lumber, and local management will not change.
Spahn & Rose has 25 locations throughout Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia and now Alabama. The company was founded in 1904 and is headquartered in Dubuque.
The acquisition of City Lumber marks the fifth recent major addition for Spahn & Rose, according to the release. Other notable acquisitions include those of Dunn Lumber in Lake Geneva, Wis., in February 2019 and Moeller & Walter Lumber in Reinbeck, Iowa, in February 2020.
