UNION, N.J. — Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. today reported a loss of $75.4 million in its fiscal third quarter.
The company said it had a loss of 61 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 8 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 20 cents per share.
The home goods retailer posted revenue of $2.62 billion in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.76 billion.
Bed Bath & Beyond shares have risen 18% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has increased 16%. The stock has climbed 27% in the past 12 months.
