CASCADE, Iowa — A Cascade cosmetologist has opened up a new, expanded salon focused on client-first services.

Myranda Demmer recently opened Hempstead Salon at 206 First Ave. W. in Cascade. The three-chair salon is focused on offering cut and color hair services in a relaxed, empowering environment.

“It’s always been my dream to run my own salon and help women feel as beautiful as they are,” Demmer said. “… It seems like nowadays, especially with social media, that women don’t have as much confidence in themselves, and if I can help them with that, then that’s what I want to do.”

Demmer has been in the cosmetology field for the past three years under the Hempstead Salon name and has worked with clients from across the Cascade area in a small, retrofitted space in one of her family’s farm buildings.

When the storefront in downtown Cascade became available, Demmer said she jumped at the chance to grow her business. The space previously operated as a cabinet store, so Demmer this spring had the building’s interior gutted and remodeled to match her personal vision.

“The opportunity came up, and I thought, ‘If I have the chance to grow, why not?’” she said. “Opening up in town, it’s really helped me grow my business but also grow myself personally, too.”

The Cascade salon now is outfitted with space for three stylists and an infrared sauna. Demmer specializes in blonding services and hair extensions, though Hempstead Salon offers a wide variety of cut and color services.

Each stylist station is separated by dividing walls, Demmer added, to ensure a one-on-one styling process for every client.

“As a hairstylist, it’s one of my biggest beliefs that your focus should always be on the client in front of you,” she said. “Those dividers just help make sure there aren’t any distractions from other clients or stylists working in the salon.”

Hempstead Salon is open by appointment Monday through Saturday. The salon can be contacted at 563-852-7616, and additional information is available online at tinyurl.com/hempsteadsalon.
