Biz Buzz shares business tidbits from across the tri-states. This edition highlights recent developments in Dubuque and Lancaster, Wis.
A discount accessories store held its grand opening Saturday in Dubuque.
Founded by Lynsey Barnhart, a born-and-raised Dubuquer, The Style Studio aims to solve a problem Barnhart experienced herself growing up locally: finding cheap accessories.
“Anytime there was a party, we would always ride to Davenport to get earrings or accessories,” Barnhart said.
Customers at The Style Studio can find items such as $5 purses or $10 shoes, Barnhart said.
“I think what’s going to surprise people is the prices,” she said.
The Style Studio offers many women’s accessories, but also items for men, like wallets and watches, as well as some items for youth.
Shoppers at The Style Studio can also find second-hand furniture items, such as TV stands and dressers, Barnhart said, some of which she is repainting or adding designs to. While Barnhart finds some of her inventory online, she acquires other items from traveling to nearby larger cities, much like she did in her youth. But this time, it’s to give others access to them locally.
“It’s a goal to have cheap things,” she said. “My whole goal is giving something to the community for lower (income) people.”
Barnhart said The Style Studio is like a brick and mortar Facebook Marketplace. She also said it is similar to a gift shop.
She said she is starting small to test the waters, but has plans to eventually personalize items and take pre-orders for certain products.
The Style Studio is located at 3684 Crescent Ridge Road. It is open four days a week — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Currently, Barnhart is accepting cash only.

Wisconsin Realtors open Lancaster office
Wisconsin.Properties Realty has opened an office in Lancaster.
The real estate brokerage firm serves all of Wisconsin, but has its home base in the southwest corner of the state, with offices in Platteville, Dodgeville and Lone Rock.
The new Lancaster office, at 151 E. Maple St., opened earlier this month.
The location’s managing broker, Hannah Haas, said she has long wanted an office in Lancaster, where she lives. With more Realtors joining the team in recent years, including two others from the Lancaster area, Haas kept occasionally bringing the idea up to leaders in the firm.
“I brought it up jokingly in December and they said ‘you know what, that’s a good idea, actually,’” Haas said.
Wisconsin.Properties Realty specializes in all kinds of real estate, Haas said. She mainly works in the residential segment but has delved into commercial. She said other members of the team bring knowledge in other kinds of real estate, like agriculture.
Haas said the Wisconsin.Properties Realty team goes above and beyond for clients, often traveling all over the state to help clients relocate.
“I probably drove a few thousand miles across Wisconsin (for one client),” Haas said.
Hass said since she started with the firm about five years ago, its number of Realtors has doubled.
“This won’t be the last office we open,” she said.

New owners at Dubuque DaaBIN Store
New owners have taken over Dubuque’s store whose business model emphasizes low prices and treasure hunting.
Husband-and-wife duo Darrin and Brenda Dennis took ownership of DaaBIN Store earlier this year. Brenda Dennis previously worked as a floater for the company, which originated in Waterloo, Iowa, and now has several locations nationwide. She filled in as a trainer and store manager as needed at different store locations.
Recently, DaaBIN founder Andy Weichers offered her a position as manager of the Dubuque location and later, owner, alongside her husband.
Darrin Dennis said he is more of a behind-the-scenes owner while his wife still serves in a manager role. He said owning a DaaBIN Store has always been an ambition of his.
“It was my dream to own a DaaBIN store,” he said. “We always shop at them.”
The DaaBIN name originates partially from the initials of Weichers and his family and partially from the word “bin.” The store features a unique shopping experience in which items from warehouses, such as overstocked or returned items, are placed in bins around the store.
“All items in the bins are $8 per item,” Darrin Dennis said. “They go down (in price) as the week goes on.”
The store operates on a Saturday through Wednesday schedule. New items are featured Saturdays at the $8 price, but then go down to $5 on Sunday, $3 on Monday and $1 on Tuesday. Wednesday is a $10 bag day, when customers can fill a bag and pay that amount for it.
“We have 50 to 100 people waiting Saturday mornings,” Darrin Dennis said.
Certain items, such as furniture, electronics and auto parts, are under the “DaaBIGs” section, marked at 70% to 80% off market price.
Aside from the low prices, Darrin Dennis said another asset of his store is its diverse, ever-changing inventory.
“If you enjoy a treasure hunt — looking for items, finding that once-in-a-lifetime (product), come to DaaBIN,” he said.
Darrin Dennis said there have not been any major changes since he and Brenda took over. However, he said they are eager to keep serving the store’s loyal customers, many of whom they know by name.
Dubuque’s DaaBIN Store is located at 4470 Dodge St. Its hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
