Tech leads gains on Wall Street, led by Facebook parent Meta

NEW YORK — Stocks are off to higher start on Wall Street, led by gains in tech stocks.

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, soared 19% after delivering an optimistic outlook and announcing a huge share buyback.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite was up 2% in the early going today, far outpacing other indexes.

The S&P 500 was up 0.8% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.5%.

Other heavyweight tech companies will report their results after the closing bell, including Apple, Amazon and Google parent company Alphabet. European markets were higher after central banks there raised interest rates again to fight inflation.
