Wall Street opens higher, pushing S&P 500 over 4,000 level

Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street led by more gains in technology giants and smaller companies.

The S&P 500 index was up 0.7% early in the first few minutes of trading today and crossed the 4,000-point mark for the first time.

The Nasdaq was up 1.4%.

Companies including Tesla that would benefit from greater sales of electric vehicles were higher after President Joe Biden outlined various measures to support their use as part of his massive infrastructure plan.

Chipmaker Micron Technology rose after reporting strong results for its latest quarter and issuing an upbeat forecast.

Treasury yields eased lower.
