The interim leader of a Dubuque nonprofit focused on enhancing the downtown area will assume the role permanently.
David Barba has been appointed executive director of Dubuque Main Street, according to a press release. He has been leading the organization on an interim basis since January following the departure of Danielle Jacobs.
“I’m honored to be joining Dubuque Main Street as executive director,” Barba said in the release. “This community has been so supportive of my work, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to give back by helping to make downtown Dubuque an even more vibrant and welcoming place for everyone.”
Barba has worked for Dubuque Main Street since 2024, starting as development coordinator for the organization. He came to Dubuque in 2018 and built up his career as an artist, painting more than a dozen murals in Dubuque and nearby communities, the release states. He also has a background in graphic design and community advocacy.
“These experiences have shaped his holistic approach to leadership and community development, making him an ideal fit to guide Dubuque Main Street into its next phase,” the release states.
